Hot day, no hot water.

Well, the heat is pretty bad today. But we awoke to hear water running in the walls and no hot water coming out of the shower… so a call to the managing agent then a visit from the plumber confirmed our worst fears – a broken pipe somewhere in our wall!

It’s New Year’s Eve so what can we do? Well, the plumber was very kind. He can’t fix anything today, but by turning off the hot water tap, it allows the water in the system to heat up. Then we switch it on to wash up or bathe, then we have to switch the system off again.

It ain’t pretty, but the plumber said we could go for 6 months like that if we needed to! Let’s hope we don’t.

The irony is that the owner was here fixing the shed (well, removing a triffid-like ivy plant that had choked the life out of the shed – literally) and asked if everything else was ok. That was Wednesday, and I said, “Yep!”. Arrrgh!

In the vegie garden (newly reclaimed from the weeds), a few little corn plants have poked their little seedling heads out of the ground.

Lord of the Rings

Not content to watch Narnia today, we spent this week watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Glenn had already seen 1 and 2; Michelle only the first. So we refreshed our memories and have just finished the third movie. Fantasy is not our thing, but we enjoyed it.

Narnia The Movie: The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe

Just got back from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Michelle wasn't that impressed. I cried all the way through. Yeh, they've changed things, but I think it showed remarkable fidelity to Lewis's text and resisted (despite being co-backed by Disney) the new-agey claptrap that I was expecting.

It's another warm day with very little wind to brin in the cool air from the coast. But one of our asiatic lillies (purachased in the Boys Inc fundraiser) is out and looking pretty in pink.

The baby has moved downwards and so we guess that means she is getting ready to come and greet the world. Michelle is perennially exhausted - as to be expected!

What an exhausting day! Nardeen (the parish secretary) is on holidays, so I had to make the Powerpoint slides for Sunday. Not that that is hard - but it's a slow process over a VPN connection. Preparing a funeral service. Taking a funeral service. A lovely family who are only new to our church. But the funeral home was undergoing renovations - and the aircon was not working! All this on a stinker of a day. Then to pick up the big car from service, and to take Michelle to the obstetrician. This is Michelle watching the cricket in the Ob's waiting room. Note the baby snaps on the other wall! Posted by Picasa

Heat alert

Tomorrow is another day where over the temperature is predicted to be over 30 degrees Celsius.

And I have a funeral to take! At least they said not to wear a suit coat.

Trying to work on Psalm 14. The NIV has really clouded the translation in verses 4 and 5.

Currently tidying up my office - going through boxes I haven't 'edited' for over two years. Michelle is in the lounge room watching the second day of the Boxing Day test in Melbourne.

My first blog... in a long time

Well, this is my first blog on this site and the first time I've entered any sort of blog for a long time.

Blogging is so boring, but then again, what it replaces in this site was far, far more boring!
